  • Auction of Magnificent Jewels on December 6, 2018
  • Featuring an exceedingly rare 3.05ct Fancy Intense Blue Diamond Ring, PROPERTY OF AN ESTEEMED ASIAN COLLECTOR
  • A fine selection of Art Nouveau jewelry, including designs by Lalique
  • Iconic jewelry by the world’s most respected jewelry houses, such as Van Cleef & Arpels, Pomellato, Bulgari, Paul Flato, Schlumberger, David Webb and more.

NEW YORK, NY—Fortuna’s highly anticipated winter sale, Magnificent Jewels, took place on December 6, 2018 at 10AM EST. The auction offers an exquisite assortment of rare estate jewels, signed pieces and important colored diamonds. Leading the collection is an incredibly rare 3.05ct Fancy Intense Blue Diamond Ring, offered by an important Asian collector. It achieved $1,395,000 at auction.

As always, the sale featured a multitude of period pieces and important signed jewelry—perfect for the holiday season. Of the many jewelry highlights, a stunning Art Deco Cartier Sapphire and Diamond Platinum Bracelet truly evokes the classic glamour that is characteristic of the Roaring Twenties era of America. This piece achieved $75,000 at auction. Another rare period piece, an Art Deco Unheated Burmese Sapphire and Diamond Bracelet, French, achieved $32,500 against a pre-sale estimate of $28,000-$35,000.

In iconic jewelry designs, an exquisite Mario Buccellati Sapphire, Diamond and White Gold Cuff achieved $31,250 at auction. Founded in 1919, Buccellati has long been known for their traditional methods in jewelry craftsmanship and mastery of texture-engraved gold. Precious metals in the hands of a skilled Buccellati goldsmith are often transformed to resemble silk or lace, a quality that can be instantly recognized in this particular diamond and sapphire cuff.

A Fine Selection of Art Nouveau Jewelry

For lovers of Art Nouveau, the sale also offered a fine selection of jewelry from that period. Characterized by natural forms and motifs, Art Nouveau as a decorative style reached its peak of influence between 1890 and 1910. A couple of the Art Nouveau highlights included a Diamond and Enamel Pendant Necklace, which sold for $10,000 at auction, and a Masriera y Carreras Art Nouveau Ruby and Plique-a-Jour Enamel Pendant/Brooch, which achieved $7,500.
