NEW YORK, NY—The Exchange auction took place Thursday, August 15, 2019 at 1PM EDT, offering a curated selection of important estate jewelry, rare signed pieces, and fine watches.
Leading the sale is a fine Van Cleef & Arpels 5.32ct Ceylon Sapphire and Diamond Ring. It is accompanied by an AGL report stating that the sapphire is of natural Ceylon origin, with no evidence of heat enhancement. The ring achieved $30,000, against a pre-sale estimate of $20,000–$30,000. In other signed pieces, the August Exchange also featured a wide ranging assortment of Tiffany & Co. pieces, most notably a gorgeous Ruby and Diamond Cuff and a minimal T-Cutout Wide Hinged Ceramic and Gold Cuff.
In watches, the August Exchange was led by a Rolex Daytona Ref. 116509H in 18K White Gold. One of the world’s most desirable watches, the Rolex Daytona leads the pack in historic sports watches and chronographs. The present example is stunning and subtle in 18K white gold, with an exotic racing dial and substantial weight to the precious metal case. Inside is the Calibre 4130, the first in-house chronograph movement produced by Rolex. The watch sold for $22,500 at auction.

Introducing the Fortuna Exchange
In 2019, Fortuna introduced a new auction offering called the Fortuna Exchange, a monthly sale series featuring fine jewelry and watches from the celebrated makers across all style periods. The Fortuna Exchange was created to provide our sellers greater opportunities per year to sell their assets on a global platform, without the constraints or limitations of consigning their pieces to seasonal sales that are few and far between. With the addition of the monthly Fortuna Exchange sales, alongside our larger signature sales that occur biannually, we are pleased to offer our clients a year that is abundant with rare and exciting fine jewelry and watch offerings.
If you are interested in consigning to the Fortuna Exchange, please note that your jewelry or watch must be submitted at least a month before the date of the sale. For more information on selling at auction, click here.
