NEW YORK, NY—The Important Watches auction will take place Thursday, April 30, 2020 at 1PM EDT, offering an exciting, wide-ranging collection of luxury and vintage timepieces from the most respected watch brands of the world.
We are excited to give you a sneak peak at the collection with our leading lot, a giant in the vintage watch collecting world, the Rolex “Paul Newman” Daytona Reference 6239. The reference 6239 is the same reference that the famed actor, race car driver and philanthropist, Paul Newman wore and popularized. The particular example we have coming up in April features a black dial with white sub-registers, fitted with a Rolex jubilee bracelet. It was purchased second-hand in the 1980s for $800 by the current owner, yet its condition is nearly perfect given its history. It is expected to achieve between $130,000–$200,000 at auction.
In other iconic Rolex watches, the Important Watches auction will also offer a fine Rolex Day-Date Ref. 18038 in 18K yellow gold, estimated between $10,000–$15,000. This classic dress watch has an especially stately presence with its elegant wood dial—a great find for collectors looking for an iconic watch that is still out of the ordinary. Also featured in the sale is a Rolex Submariner Date Ref. 116618 in 18K yellow gold, offered for an estimated $22,000–$30,000. This latest generation of Rolex’s Submariner Date line features the very best in Rolex innovation, from the Oyster Perpetual gold case and bracelet to its unidirectional rotatable ceramic bezel—developed to be virtually resistant to scratching.
